The Jews: A Contrary People
Yehuda Bauer
"An historian of the Holocaust, whose job it is to try and document histo-
rical processes and argue for and against theories and for and against descriptions
of historical events, writes a book in which there are almost no footnotes. He
presents arguments without so much as attempting to quote existing literature, or
prove his points by referring to accepted authorities in the areas he discusses. And
he claims to be an historian! What a cheek! If he were younger, one would have
had to deny him the right to teach at a university; and the worst thing about this is
that I agree with this devastating critique. It is true: I am presenting theses, without
trying to prove their validity in the accustomed way. "
